Meet the Jewel: Kathryn

Name: Kathryn Hartle

Specialty: Sales

How many years have you worked at Croghan’s? 2 glorious years at the Box.

White gold or yellow gold? I am an equal opportunity jewelry aficionado! I love both yellow and white gold, although I probably have more yellow gold.

What is your favorite jewelry brand? Single Stone. Gorgeous, one-of-a-kind antique diamonds beautifully set in new mountings.

What is your favorite gemstone? Sapphire is my favorite gemstone, which conveniently is my birthstone.

What is your favorite piece of jewelry you own and why? My favorite piece of jewelry is a sapphire and diamond three-across ring from our Estate Collection. It is a classic design but the stones are oval, which makes it unique. I fell in love with it the minute I saw it.

Favorite piece of jewelry you have ever sold and why? Each and every time I guide a customer through the selection of the perfect engagement ring and make it easy and fun, that becomes my favorite item sold. It never gets old!

What is the best thing about working on Wonderful King Street? The energy of the local shops around us, the wonderful customers that have been coming to us for years, and the visitors who put us on the top of their “what to do in Charleston” list.

Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate.

Coffee or Tea? Coffee.

Sunrise or Sunset? Sunset.

Sweet or Savory? Savory.

Favorite night in? Dirty martini and a round of backgammon with my husband.

Favorite night out? Dinner with friends.

Tell us a random fact people would be surprised to know about you: I met Mairead Corrigan Maguire a 1976 recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. She is a peace activist who co-founded The Peace People. I met her at her home in Northern Ireland. At the time she was the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize until Malala Yousafzi in 2014.

Tell us a funny moment at 308 Wonderful King Street that still makes you laugh out loud: It was Christmas-time and beautiful gifts of food fill our counters. One day, there were some precious cookies in cute shapes I thought might be gingerbread. So I popped one in my mouth and just as quickly spat it out into a paper towel. As I rounded the corner I gave a co-worker the heads up not to try them as they tasted like dog biscuits. She carefully showed me the shapes, which were fire hydrants and dogs!

What are your 4 favorite items on our site and why?

Single Stone Paige Band

1. Single Stone Paige Band: If this ring were a bridesmaid she might be prettier than the bride! Featuring French cut and Old European cut diamonds in a channel setting it has an understated elegance that would look beautiful on its own or paired with other bands or a solitaire.

Temple St. Clair Leather Cord

2. Temple St. Clair Leather Cord: Wearing the leather cord instead of a chain can take a more fanciful item, (think antique locket) and give it an edgy, current vibe. Charms can be layered and different knots can be added for another look.

Sapphire and Diamond Channel Set Bangle

3. Sapphire & Diamond Channel Set Bangle: I just love this bracelet. Easy to wear, every day and everywhere. Makes a beautiful statement that can be worn day to night.

Victorian Turquoise Pearl and 18K Gold Bangle

4. Victorian Turquoise, Pearl & 18K Gold Bangle: I love turquoise and gold, such an unexpected display, rarely seen in modern jewelry. Yellow gold highlights all the nuances of the beautiful turquoise.
