We have a love–hate relationship with being closed for a few days in a row. The truth is that our little jewel box just keeps growing and growing and requiring more and more time from all of us. When we look at our customer base, more and more of you are from out of town. At this very moment over 45% of you, our customers, live outside of the greater Charleston area! That is mind boggling to us.
The hate part of being closed for a few days in a row is that we miss the opportunity to connect with some of you that may be here visiting and traveling to Charleston and you have penciled us in as part of your adventure. We hate to be closed for the families that are here for just a few days and have a jewelry emergency or want to run in and “play in our jewel box!”
The love part of being closed for a few days is that everyone needs time away from the hustle and bustle of work to spend with family and those that they love. It takes a few days to unwind and smell the pluff mud! It makes us very happy to look at the calendar and see how we can give our “jewels” (this is what we call our employees) a few days off in a row around a holiday! This is basically an unheard of luxury in the world of retail! We get giddy when announcing it to the group!
