5, 5.5, and 6 mm are the most popular sizes. These sizes are a nice size for young girls and when complete as a necklace, they are beautiful to wear as an adult.
The collecting starts here! The recipient will wear the necklace like this until 10 or more pearls are collected and added.
Croghan’s sells additional pearls by the inch, and we suggest you gift these carded pearls for your celebrations. We recommend collecting 10 or more pearls before adding to the necklace. Each time you add to the necklace, all the pearls are restrung on a silk cord with knots between each pearl. There is a restringing fee for this service we offer. We charge $10 per inch for stringing. The chain in the back will be shortened as more pearls are added.

Our pearl additions are fine quality Akoya pearls. They are beautifully matched. Purchasing pearls elsewhere may affect the beauty of the completed strand. The pearls may not match.
Yes, most jewelry stores offer stringing services. It would just be important to indicate that you would like the pearls knotted and would like the same amount of chain removed as pearls added to the necklace.
No, this necklace is for special occasions. Pearls are organic and porous. They should be kept away from perfumes, lotions, and hairspray. Avoid getting them wet. We like to say they should be the last thing you put on when getting dressed and the first thing off when undressing.
The start-her-pearl-necklace tradition is one we love. Collecting pearls from a loved one is very special. The cost of the individual pearls and the restringing costs are something to keep in mind. Oftentimes, a completed akoya pearl necklace will be less expensive.
